Sometimes a repair is not sufficient to fix your furnace. Sometimes a new furnace is the most cost-effective and energy-efficient way to go. We will always be honest with you about a possible furnace replacement. We value our time and your money––we don’t want to perform repairs or service on an appliance that is in need of replacement.
If you do need a furnace replacement, we know how overwhelming it can be. Here are some of the frequently asked questions about furnaces that we get from some of our Culpeper, VA residents:
What Are The Different Types Of Furnaces?
Single Stage: A single-stage furnace has only one stage of operation. It can either be turned on or turned off.
Two Stage: A two-stage furnace has two settings––full and half speed. This is a more efficient way to heat and provides for better comfort, because it can move the air at a slower pace.
Variable Stage or Modulating: A variable-stage or modulating furnace modulates the speed and heat output based on the temperature outside and the desired comfort level. This furnace only works as much as you need it, making this type the most energy-efficient type of furnace.
What Is AFUE?
AFUE, or Annualized Fuel Utilization Efficiency, is a measure of furnace-heating efficiency. The higher the AFUE, the more efficient the furnace.
What Size Furnace Do I Need?
We can calculate the correct size furnace for your home. The number of BTUs, or British Thermal Units, needed to heat your home is dependent on a number of variables. Contrary to what you might think, a bigger furnace may not necessarily mean more heating power for your home. Call us at Able Heating & Air, and we can set up an appointment to calculate the furnace size you might need.

I Cannot Make Enough Positive Comment About Our Experience with Able
“I cannot make enough positive comment about our experience with Able. From the first phone call made, to the first visit here, to the return visit for the extra attention needed, our entire experience has been top-notch. We had just had a maintenance check on our heating system by another company, yet the system shut down during the recent extreme cold snap and left us with no heat. We suffered thru as Greg checked us out, ordered needed parts, etc, and as quickly as possible got us back up and running. Greg could not have been more friendly and professional, not to mention efficient in his job. There is no question we will use him exclusively as well as highly recommend him to all we know. We also appreciated the prompt and thorough contact his office kept with us throughout their days of service to us. Able is truly A+.”
The Proposals Were Thorough and Complete
“Greg showed up right on time to go over various proposals for our heating, cooling, and hot water. He offered several different options which we had previously discussed on his initial visit to go over what our options were. The proposals were thorough and complete, and he was able to answer all of our questions. So far, I have been quite impressed with the professionalism, respect, knowledge, and attention to detail provided by Able Heating & Air and I look forward to working with them. “
Much Appreciated His Friendly and Polite Service
“I was out in my yard mowing when Chris arrived to make a minor leak repair on my furnace. Even though I had left access to the furnace area open, Chris took the time to walk into my backyard and check in with me prior to commencing his work. I was still mowing when he finished; he again reported on the work that had been done, and showed me a phone picture of the repair. Much appreciated his friendly and polite service & he even secured my crawl space after he had finished his work. Have been using Able for a couple years and they have been excellent. ”
Pleasant and Considerate
“Greg answered our need for our furnace repair in record time. He was very considerate of our home and the need for his expertise. His explanation of the problem was well received. The answering service for the Company was very pleasant and considerate, too.”
“Greg — as well as Lynn from the office — called to say he would be running late…thank you for that. After he arrived, Greg replaced the blown group of connections and got the furnace to start up. It was in the mid-to-upper 50s in this house and now the temp has passed 60 degrees and climbing. Karen and I are so grateful and thankful for his work and look forward to working with Greg and Able for years to come.”
