“Our basement furnace stopped working on the coldest day of the season. We had our oldest son and his wife and 7 kids coming in from Wisconsin today to stay with us. “The Able team is always great and today (Saturday Dec 28) they were especially helpful. There was a power outage & we were told it would take a while to fix. And our backup generator wouldn’t start. We have houseguests, including a child, & without power we wouldn’t have water, heat or wifi. Since our area doesn’t have cell service, our guests couldn’t use their phones. I called Able and they sent Brian over immediately and he was reassuring, kind and responsive. Although nearby services were closed, he found a place to buy the battery we needed. “The system was installed in five days — Mitsubishi/Trane mini-split, ductless, with four units, one in each bedroom and a larger one in the living area. It's working very well, is very quiet, and keeps the house comfortable with little attention. One day into this summer’s 95-plus degree heat wave, our 23-year old TRANE heat pump stopped working. A minor repair got it going again, but we saw it as a sign that now was time to replace the aging system.
Our number one priority was to find a local service provider who sold TRANE units. We selected Able Heating & Air and couldn’t be more pleased with our choice. They sell quality products and back them up with superb service and installation work. Neil met with us, performed a detailed analysis, and offered a package that would not only replace our existing system, but also solve nagging hotspot problems we had been struggling with for years. This involved replacing the primary heat pump and adding a mini-split unit to address the hotspot issue.
First came the mini-split. Joe completed the installation in two days. He was meticulous in every aspect of the procedure and the resulting improvement was immediate. Shortly after, Mike and Greg followed up with replacement of the primary heat pump. The results were nothing less than amazing. Even though the ensuing month was the hottest in memory, our electric bill actually dropped substantially from the same month last year and the temperature level of every area remained cool and constant.
The best part of the project was the follow-up service provided by Greg’s team. Remember that this was our primary consideration when selecting a HVAC company. We were not disappointed. As with any retrofit, adjustments were expected. Ours was no exception in that an air duct needed to be modified. Mike and Mark did an expert job of making and installing the needed connection. The result was professional..
We look forward to many years of a perfectly functioning system with continuing service by the staff of Able Heating & Air. They have earned our highest rating and recommendation.

I spoke with a representative who took my info and told me I’d get a call back once he passed my info on to the team in the morning, which was of course understandable. However I received a call from the owner, maybe 30 minutes later, who said he would head over to take a look and try to get it up and running that night, for a very reasonable service charge. He came over and diagnosed the problem very quickly, fixed it on the spot, again for a reasonable charge. After that my ac turned right back on and have had no issues since.

He got it working by cleaning the dehumidifier drain tube, showed me how to clean it, and explained how it could cause the air handler to stop working if it gets clogged up. He also showed me photos from inside the unit. It was very dirty. He said that it needed cleaning and that we may want to consider having it done in the near future. “We were having issues with our AC so we reached to several AC professionals in the area. First was a Dynamic heating an Air (do not contact do not use ever in my opinion), Second was Able heating and air, and third I.C.E Heating and cooling. Vendors two and three were highly competitive and professional and you couldn’t go wrong with either one. We chose Able even though they were higher in price than the competition. Our choice was made in part to Neils candor, the way he interacted with my wife directly, and not only saying there was an issue but providing facts and detailed pics. The first vendor flat out lied and I have the pics to prove it. Neil was able to do an emergency temp repair (at no additional cost) while we shopped around for additional quotes. In this day and age how a company treats your family when your not there is important. But wait (like the infomercials) there is more. The techs who performed the install were top notch, kept me informed of their progress, cleaned up after themselves, and pointed out some critical plumbing issue. My washer was draining to ground in my crawlspace. I am never under the house so I doubt I would have ever caught these critical issues. So yes I paid more but I am extremely happy all the way around, There is a lot of information out there and it is easy to get overloaded with details Able Heating and Air made it a painless replacement with a Trane unit.”

The wizard of all-that-is-heating-and-cooling proved that he is more than Able-bodied for any task — he is our unequivocal champion of keeping our home comfortable and safe through all seasons.
Point in case: the aforementioned nearly-octogenarian heating system is electronically managed by a fuse box. (Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus and fuse boxes in some homes!). “Able Heating and Air is great! We had a new Trane heat pump, air handler, and heater installed by a different company. The air handler was noisy – sounded like a truck, which could be heard throughout the house. There was also a grinding noise. The installer couldn't figure out what the issue was. So I called Able Heating and Air in Culpeper, Va. They initially sent out Michael, who verified that the install was okay and signed us up for a maintenance agreement because the cost is very reasonable, and the maintenance diagnostics that they do twice a year is very thorough and should be able to determine what the problem was – because it was continuing to make noise. Seth came out to do the 6 month maintenance (per our maintenance plan) and determined that the issue was that the single thick filter in the air handler was restricting the flow. He recommended installing replaceable filters in the air intakes on each floor and removing the thick filter in the air handler. He also recommended replacing our drain line, which the installer had neglected to do. We agreed to have the changes made. Seth ordered the parts and came out with Liam to do the work on 7/29/2019. The unit is now working perfectly with no noise!!”

“To start with I contacted Able Heating and Air in reference to obtaining an estimate to replace my heating/air system. I was immediately given an appointment within a few days. However, the day before my appointment I turned on my heat and experienced a horrible smell like burning food in a stove. That day I called Able and spoke with Amy to express my concerns with regards to the burning smell. Even though I was not a customer at that moment she took the time to contact the owner and make him aware of my concerns. She immediately called me back and advised me that the owner was also concerned with the unusual odor and suggested that I turn the system off immediately. They immediately changed my appointment to that day. Bo responded to my home and was promptly on time. He was very professional, polite and informative and took the time to explain every detail with regards to replacing my system. He also provided several options to choose from to meet my budget and obtain a system that would best suit my needs. From that day forward the office has remained in contact with me via phone or email with regards to replacing my system. Do to the fact I was not able to run my system they made arrangement to replace it the following Monday morning.
The service team arrived that Monday morning in a timely manner. They were also very polite, professional and informative. They worked through the day and into the early evening hours until the install was complete. They took the time to show me how the new thermostat worked and provided my with the instruction booklet. They also took to time to photograph the air handler installation which was located in the crawl space of my home. This prevented me from crawling under the house to inspect the work. I considered that to be very thoughtful on their part and concerned about me having to crawl under the house. Once they were finished they cleaned up everything along with removing the old air handler and heat pump and the only way I knew they were even there was the view of an new quietly running Trane heat pump.In closing I would like to say that Able Heating and Air greatly surpassed my expectations in the service they have provided me. “I am truly lucky that I found Able Heating & Air through Home Advisor.com . The first time I contacted them my A/C was not working and it was 96 degrees outside. They were there in a half hour and fixed the problem. They didn’t charge me for an emergency call though to me it was a real emergency. I purchased a service contract for them to come twice a year to check my system. What I didn’t know was that it includes so much more than the twice yearly service call. When my house began filling with mold and musty smells, they came out and found that the 40 year-old duct work had collapsed and drawing bad air from my crawl space into my house. They did a temporary fix (no charge) and Greg, the owner came out the next day and gave me an excellent proposal to install completely new duct work, a new special purpose five inch filter and a new Trane digital wifi thermostat. It was very reasonable so I signed the contract. They called to set up the work and gave me a date seven days later to begin the work. The day before the work was to begin they called and said they had finished another job early and would like to start that day. They came and by the original start date they had finished the work early. I can not recommend them more highly. It is really great to find a company with high standards of ethics and attention to detail. Able goes above and beyond to satisfy their customers. “Greg Venable, President, Able Heating&Air, happened to appear just as my former heat pump system was seeing the end of it’s life. Not only did Greg inspect the system, he indicated that a replacement was in the near future, expressed his opinion of what type of replacement would be satisfactory in my home, and asked me to call when I was ready. It just so happened that during the coldest period in January 2014, I was left using the alternative heat system and Greg came to the rescue, preparing the options and recommendations and indicating when he could perform the install. If there is a word beyond “thorough” it would apply to how he installed the system, redirected the pipes so I would have better heat in my bedroom, and corrected an electrical problem.I would highly recommend an experienced, dedicated, professional like Greg who also has the ability to troubleshoot issues without complaining about the amount of work to be done, or the time involved.
